Ann Schwab

California State University, Chico
Program Director
An alumna of Community Action Volunteers in Education’s (CAVE) Big Brother Big Sister program while an undergraduate at Chico State, Ann joined CAVE’s professional staff in 1999 and was named Program Director in 2015. CAVE’s mission is to provide Chico State students with meaningful volunteer opportunities, to develop student leaders, and to serve a broad base of community needs. Established in 1966, this student-run program serves children, older adults, people experiencing homelessness as well as working on environmental projects and with local animal shelters. CAVE’s philosophy is the community should be a classroom for hands-on learning. Annually, more than 2,000 students provide over 60,000 hours of community service through CAVE!

During her tenure with CAVE, Ann initiated the Alternative Break Program, developed Adopt-a-Park, Community Outreach Ambassadors, National Parks Weekend Immersion Programs, and CAVE’s Theme Floor. She participates in the Faculty Mentor Program, and serves on the Civic Engagement Advisory Board and Internship Committee.

Ann embraces CAVE’s motto “Life is for Learning,” and believes in community service in her personal and professional life. Ann serves on the Chico City Council. First elected in 2004, she served two terms as Mayor and was re-elected for her fourth council term in November 2016. Ann is the President of Chico Velo Cycling Club and chairs the 6-county Northern Sacramento Integrated Regional Water Management Board. Ann received her BA in Psychology from CSU, Chico.
